Republic announces huge build at MM, Sawyer Road

A long row of earth moving heavy equipment sits ready for action by Garton Business Park, which includes a warehouse for Lew’s. The machines started moving dirt the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 29, on a colossal project the city of Republic is keeping under wraps.
Massive distribution center, warehouse coming to town; work began Tuesday on secret structure
Midday Monday, the city of Republic made a big announcement on social media about an incoming distribution center and warehouse near Garton Business Park in Brookline. Although city officials aren’t at liberty to confirm details of the business, rumors have circulated that it’s an Amazon related build.
The 133-acre property, which sits on the southwest corner of the intersection of Highway MM and Sawyer Road, is owned by Drury University, as listed on the Greene County online plat map. By Monday afternoon, around a dozen dozers and earth movers were lined up ready to tackle a major job.
Could it be Amazon?
Nationally, Amazon has 75 fulfillment centers, employing some 125,000 full-time employees. The billion-dollar business—now larger than Walmart—is no stranger to the midwest either. There are currently two Amazon fulfillment centers in Missouri, one in Hazelwood, the other St. Charles, each touting 1,500 jobs. Additionally, there are three near Kansas City, all located in Kansas.
More info on the way
The city’s announcement added that more specifics about the project will be disseminated in the coming weeks and months.
Even if Amazon isn’t involved in this addition to the growing industrial park, whatever is being developed will likely be a major job creator.
