Pictured is a map of land, outlined in blue, that is now part of the city of Republic. It sits just east of Old Stone Apartments.

Republic City Council, in another shot of growth, green lit the annexation of 91.55 acres at 6542 West U.S. Highway 60, on the east side of Republic, at its Aug. 24 meeting. The property sits approximately one quarter mile east of the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and West Republic Road/ Highway MM. It’s located on the south side of U.S. 60.
The voluntary annexation was requested by Wilson’s Valley, LLC. The annexation will zone the parcel as agricultural and light industrial, as the property currently has split zoning in the county. The annexation was recommended by city staff, as the property enjoys access to municipal services.
The first reading of the now-passed annexation ordinance was made public at the council’s Aug. 17 meeting, although not voted on until the meeting the following week, Aug. 24.
Also during the Aug. 17 meeting:
Interim City attorney
Council passed a resolution to hire an interim replacement for outgoing city attorney Scott Ison. The replacement is Damon Phillips, who will be in the position until the end of the year. No word yet on what precipitated Ison’s departure.
American Rescue Plan Act funds
The council also agreed to a resolution to request allocation of $3.12 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. The majority of the money, $1.9 million, will go toward wastewater upgrades including the McElhaney Lift Station.
