Republic City Council eases into in-person meetings at community center

It was almost back to normal for the Republic City Council last week, as the city leaders met in person for the first time in months. The group held their June 2 meeting at the Republic Community Center, which allowed for social distancing not only for the council but for those
in attendance.
In action during the meeting, the council voted unanimously, 8-0, passing three ordinances.
The first ordinance rezoned 23.5 acres on the 7500 block of West Farm Road 174 from agricultural to high density single family residential.

The second ordinance passed vacated a water line easement on Lot 1 of the Old Stone PDD.
The third ordinance OK’d the city entering into an infrastructure development agreement with Turner Residential Holding for Phase 1 of the A’vila Residential Subdivision.
The council also unanimously passed a resolution to enter into an agreement with Midwest Public Risk for property and liability insurance for 2020-2021.
Additionally, the council—after some COVID-19 concerns were expressed—OK’d a special permit for a fireworks display for South Creek Church.
In the early moments of the meeting Mayor Jeff Ussery read a proclamation officially declaring June 8-12, Republic City Employee Appreciation Week.
