Republic Council rezones land, could spell major subdivision on East Hines

The Republic City Council, at the request of  owner Bussell Building, Inc., voted to grand a rezone of 35.33 acres at 2887 East Hines Street, opening the door to a future subdivision.
The vote, which passed 6-0 in the absence of members Charlie Brashers and John Jones at the council's Jan. 7 meeting, changes the land's zoning from agricultural to high density single-family residential making way for a boat load of houses.
The new disgnation allows six dwelling units per acre, which equates to up to 212 homes in the subdivision. the zoning only allows single-family dwellings, among other specific uses.
The future build site is currently home to a small farm-stead that sits away from Hines Street on the north side of the property. The land also surrounds Harrington Cemetery, which can be accessed from Hines.
In other business, the council voted to authorize the purchase of equipment for the upgrade of Lift Station 2, at a cost of $116,569 made by low bidder—of two bids—JCI Industries. The cost includes pumps and other upgrades. Additionally, the pumps can be relocated if necessary.

amending code regarding Parks and Recreation user fees;
- Passing an ordinance amending code regarding medical marijuana;
- To enter an agreement with the city of Springfield for the acquisition of Pictomerty;
- To enter an agreement with Rankin Development and Drury University for improvements to Garton Business Park;
- Passing an ordinance amending code regarding financial guarantees and public utilities.
