Republic OK’s another subdivision, this one on Main Street

The Republic City Council, in a partial but official capacity at their May 21 meeting, voted 6-0 in favor of accepting a preliminary plat for Ashford Place, a residential subdivision just north of Sweeny Elementary on Main Street. The subdivision will occupy 9.3 acres and will have 48 lots.
The council fell in line with recommendations not only from the Republic Planning and Zoning Board but also the city staff who stood behind the development.
The property is located at the 900 block of North Main Street, and will be located on the east side of Main Street.
The lots within the subdivision range from 5,000 to 8,751 square feet. The construction of the development will include approximately 1,000 feet of street and sidewalk, which will be dedicated to the city.
In other business, the council voted 6-0 in favor of:
- Awarding a bid for bulk waterline materials to Springfield Winwater Works.
- Authorizing a payment to Republic Services for excess material collected during the recent citywide cleanup. In 2017 the company hauled off 115 tons; in 2018, 124 tons and this year the company hauled away 243.6 tons, far exceeding expectations. Republic Services asked the city to pay for the additional day of service, bringing the total to $32,061.20.
- Amend the budget for fiscal year 2019.
Council members John Jones and Charlie Brashers were absent for the meeting, as was Mayor Jeff Ussery. However, in Ussery’s stead was Mayor Pro-Tem Matt Russell, who presided over the meeting with aplomb.
