Republic resident Trout charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, etc.

A Republic man was arrested on Wednesday, April 15, after allegedly striking a woman and giving her a bloody nose while she was holding her son, and then forcing her into a shower to make her wash the blood off. Jacob William Trout, 31, is charged with second-degree domestic assault, three counts of third-degree domestic assault, fourth-degree domestic assault, third-degree kidnapping, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and abuse or neglect of a child.

Police come to Republic residence
According to the probable cause statement in the case, a member of the Republic Police Department arrived at the scene on Monday, April 6, after being informed by dispatch that Trout had “busted (the victim’s) face.”
The officer reported that upon arriving, he smelled a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Trout. Trout stated he had drunk a “quarantine amount” of alcohol and had gotten into an argument with the victim, but denied hitting her.
The officer spoke with the victim, who told him Trout had been yelling at her son earlier in the day, using curse words. She said while she was trying to calm her son down, Trout came into the room, upset that she was talking about him (Trout).

Head butting incident
The victim reported that Trout grabbed her by the hair, pulled her down and began kicking her and yanking her hair, all the while yelling at her. The victim said she got up, picked up her son and left the bedroom to get away from Trout.
She then said Trout followed her into the hall where he grabbed her by the arms, while she was still holding her son, and threw her against the wall and then head butted her in the face, causing her nose to bleed.
Trout then, she said, forced her into the bathroom and yelled at her to “wash her (expletive) face.” The woman said Trout physically blocked her from leaving the bathroom and eventually forced her into the shower where he ran water over both her and her son to wash the blood off of her face. The officer noted that there appeared to be water and blood in the shower, and that both the victim and her son were wearing wet clothes.
The woman said she and her son were eventually able to leave the shower, but Trout again followed them into the hallway, where he then struck her repeatedly and also struck another child who was in the hallway.
Trout then, the woman said, calmed down a little and began “bribing” her son to calm him down. She said he asked her son, “Should we burn (the victim)? Should we kill her? Should we show her (redacted) new stabbing tools?”
According to the probable cause statement, the woman was able to call 911 when a family member of Trout’s called him. He allegedly answered the phone and said “(The victim) is testing her life tonight.”

Victim leaves state for her safety
The victim was interviewed by another Republic Police officer on April 10. According to the probable cause statement containing that interview, the victim had sent the department an e-mail in which she said she was upset because Trout was originally arrested and then released with no charges being filed, so she left the state out of concern for her safety and the safety of her son. She also said she had wanted to get an order of protection against Trout, but had trouble getting hold of anyone at the station, so she’d immediately left after the incident happened.

Other incidents between victim and Trout
When the officer met with the victim for the interview, she told the officer there had been other domestic incidents between Trout and herself, but Trout always took her phone away to keep her from calling for help or calling 911. While recounting the head-butting incident, the victim said her son said “You made my mommy bleed” to Trout. She said Trout said to her son, that she “had a lot more blood in her body and he was going to show him.” She also said Trout gave her son some toys and then said he (Trout) was going to “kill his mommy, burn her and stab her.”
According to the second probable cause statement, pictures taken of the victim’s injuries after the second interview showed there was one large, aged bruise of the victim on the back of her upper-left arm.

Son corroborates victim’s account
During Child Advocacy Center interview conducted on Tuesday, April 14, the victim’s son corroborated the victim’s account of Trout head butting her and forcing them into the shower. The officer reported that the victim’s son most likely suffered “mental and emotional abuse” from Trout and “suffered trauma that will more than likely require therapy.”
As of press time, Trout remained in custody at the Greene County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 open-court only bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wed., April 22, for a bond-reduction hearing, and again on Monday, June 1, for a counsel status hearing.
