Republic signs off on several growth rezones, annexations
Governing body OK’s $70 million development near Republic Road, U.S. 60
As has been the case in recent months, the Republic City Council, at its May 4 meeting, worked through an agenda thick with rezones and annexations requests, the result of a growing town.
None more noteworthy during the meeting, was the unanimous support of the rezone of 40 acres just south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and Republic Road, where a large residential development is now set to move forward. The $70 million gated community is said to include some 480 units—many for a 55-plus demographic—and retail space.
Rezones
Also OK'd by the council at the first May meeting was the rezone of 40.9 acres in the 1800 block of East Miller from agricultural to planned development district, and .37 acres at 201 West State Highway 174, from local commercial to general commercial.
Annexations
Annexations consumed much attention during the agenda, to the tune of 38.7 acres from five different requests, all of which were granted unanimously. The annexations were .83 acres at 658 South Cully Avenue; 5 acres at the 7400 block of West Farm Road 174; 4.89 acres at the 7400 block of West Farm Road 174; 10.88 acres at 6354 South South Farm Road 89; and 17.1 acres at the 6400 block of South Farm Road 89.
Final Plats
The council also unanimously approved the final plats of Auburn Hills Phase One and 60 West Subdivision.
Senior Age
Lastly, the council authorized a license agreement with SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging, formerly known as Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, for use of the Gerry Pool Senior Friendship Center. The vote tallied seven in favor, zero against and one abstention—from council member Gerry Pool.
