Ruck ’N’ Running for the cause

Runners and ruckers united at the 5th Annual Ruck ’N’ Run Walk/Run held last Saturday at Meadoview Baptist Church, Republic. This year’s attendance neared the 400 mark, at the military-themed event designed to counter the commercialization of Veterans Day. Prior to the run, which was a celebration of U.S. service members, participants gathered around a bonfire and viewed the presentation of colors and the playing of Taps. There was also a word from Pastor Josh Matthews, with Meadowview Baptist, and George Fuller, event organizer.
Additionally the gathering included a food drive, which raised 1,328 pounds of food. Added to donations in years past, the total tips the scales at 7,511 pounds.
Above, Runners adorned with ruck sacks await the starting gun to begin the event which included workout stations for those really wanting a challenge. Left, A military truck, affectionately called “Gomez” is painted with the Ruck ’N’ Run in mind. Below, Organizer George Fuller addresses the large crowd of patriotic participants Saturday morning from the bed of Gomez.
