Schofield Elementary honored as Model Professional Learning School
Republic elementary one of 180 schools nationwide
Republic’s Schofield Elementary has been named a Model Professional Learning School (MPLS), a distinction that is held by only 180 schools in the United States.
Schofield was named a MPLS by Solution Tree, a professional development company for K-12 teachers nationwide. The honor was announced during the Republic School District’s board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 17.
Christy Coursey, the elementary director of learning at Republic and who was Schofield’s principal when the honor was received, described a MPLS as a school that shows clear evidence of improvement in student learning.
“A Model Professional Learning School has demonstrated a commitment to the Professional Learning Community at Work process and clear evidence of improved student learning is documented,” she said. “In a Professional Learning Community, educators work in collaborative teams to determine essential skills students must learn at each grade level and ensure they are successful with the identified essential skills.”
Coursey said Schofield’s distinction as a MPLS came as a result of several years of effort by all involved, including educators, students and the students’ families.
“This distinction signifies the collective commitment demonstrated by the educators at the school and the hard work of Schofield’s students and families,” she said. “This distinction has required many years of dedication and focus.”
