Sold! Community gathers for FFA fry

Sharp dressed men—FFA’ers Payton Griffin, left, and Luke Elliott work the hamburger grill as orders roll in.

Dessert devourer Matthew Hancock—who eventually claimed victory— takes a break as other competitors Hunter Wheeler and Chris Boyd dig in.

Local auctioneer Lyndel Hall works his magic with the mic as he stokes the crowd to buy some pies.

Truck, tractor show add to first-time affair at Ash Grove City Park

Last Saturday’s sweltering heat couldn’t squelch support for Ash Grove’s FFA chapter, as more than 275 people turned up for the inaugural Ash Grove FFA Calf Fry at Ash Grove City Park. The event included a truck and tractor show, a pie eating contest, a pie auction, live music from Sondown and possibly the main draw—deep fried calf fries (bull testicles).
With all revenue counted, the chapter brought in more than $4,300 from the one-day gathering.
“We greatly appreciate the tremendous support our community showed, especially with this being the first year of our calf fry event,” Ash Grove FFA advisor Nathan Isakson said
“We’re proud to say that the funds raised are being equally split between the David Tummons Dignity of Labor scholarship, Barry Trantham Be the Legend Scholarship, Ash Grove FFA Supporters and Alumni Adult Agriculture Education Association, and the Ash Grove FFA Chapter. We plan to utilize the funds that support both high school and college education while simultaneously preparing the next generation of leaders for successful careers through experience-based and service learning. Thank you to our community for making this happen and our sponsors for significantly reducing our overhead expenses.”
Isakson added that the chapter can be followed on Facebook for anyone who would like to see how the funds were used.
