Tornado sweeps through Wilson’s Creek, spares Republic

An EF-0 tornado swept through the Wilson’s Creek area in the early morning hours of Monday, Oct. 21, causing considerable damage, but no death or injuries.
According to a report from the National Weather Service, the tornado landed in Christian County west of Highway ZZ and south of West County Line Road at 12:57 a.m., where it snapped several large trees. The tornado moved east through the Wilson’s Creek National Park, towards the Greene-Christian County line along FF before lifting at 1:04 a.m. Four power lines were knocked over, and a home along FF sustained damage to its roof, gutters and vinyl siding.
The tornado traveled a little under five miles and lasted for a total of seven minutes, reaching a maximum width of 100 yards and a speed of 85 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service had included Republic in a tornado warning at around 1 a.m. on Monday, but a revised warning issued about 20 minutes later showed Republic to be in the clear.
Anyone whose property was damaged in the tornado is asked to submit a report, including photos of damage, to the National Weather Service; this can be done via their Facebook page, titled “National Weather Service, Springfield, Missouri.”
