Veterans parade patriotism, honored by onlookers

An estimated 1,000 people turned out for the 3rd Annual Western Greene County Veterans Day Parade last Saturday morning on Jackson Street, in Willard. The closed street was lined with spectators showing their patriotism for the more than 100 parade entries, many armed services themed.
The parade was the culmination of several Veterans Day commemorations in Willard, which also included a Veteran Day Assembly at Willard Middle School; Veterans Stand Down, where free hygiene services are offered to veterans; and the 2nd annual Veterans Supper held the evening prior to the parade at the Willard Community Building. Additionally, there was a flag retirement at Jackson Street Park following the parade.
The heart-warming run of events was hosted by AMVETS Post 188, the city of Willard and Willard Schools.
