Due to COVID-19, the vendor and live entertainment portions of Freedom Fest 2020 have been canceled. However, Willard residents will still have the chance to enjoy a fireworks display on Saturday, June 27.
The Willard Parks Department posted a notice about the fireworks display on their Freedom Fest website, and encouraged residents who would like to shoot off their own fireworks to do so.
“The City of Willard and Willard Parks will be shooting off fireworks on the east edge of the city to mark the occasion of our towns longstanding tradition of Freedom Fest,” she said. “Citizens are encouraged to help us celebrate our country’s freedom by helping us light up the sky from their homes from 9:45 to 10:00 pm on June 27th, 2020.”
According to the website, the fireworks for the display will be shot off from the fields just east of Apple Market; out of safety concerns, the area will be closed to the public. Citizens can best view the fireworks at the Willard High School parking lot or the Prairie View Shopping Center parking lot.
