Williamson to take helm of Ash Grove boys basketball

Grant Williamson will be the new coach for Ash Grove High School boys varsity basketball during the 2019-20 school year. He is a 2017 graduate of College of the Ozarks, where he majored in K-12 physical education with a minor in coaching.
A native of Willard, Williamson played basketball and golf in high school, and was involved with the College of the Ozarks basketball team. He has been involved in coaching in various capacities for the last six years, including two at Willard High School where he has been a teacher and the junior varsity boys basketball coach and middle school track assistant.
Williamson said he is beyond excited to come to Ash Grove.
“I can’t wait to dive in here at Ash Grove,” he said. “We plan on playing a style that utilizes each player’s unique strengths and skills to achieve team success.
It is a fun style of basketball that players enjoy playing, coaches enjoy coaching, and fans enjoy watching. Our goal will be to develop a basketball program that can sustain consistent success. One that represents the school and community well and that they can be proud of.”
Williamson said he loves to coach sports because it gives him a chance to work with young people and help them get ready for the world outside of high school.
“I have a passion for helping young people achieve their goals and preparing them to be successful at whatever they choose to do in life,” he said. “Sports encapsulate so many vital aspects of life so for me, there is no greater platform to help young people than coaching. It is a privilege to get to work with so many outstanding young people, and I take great joy from helping them succeed.”
In addition to coaching the boys varsity basketball team, Williamson will also teach high school and middle school P.E., and he hopes to help coach other sports during the spring and fall. He said he is “excited … to be a Pirate.”
“I’m grateful for this opportunity,” he said. “Support from other coaches and administration has been great and helpful in this transition. There is a lot of work yet to be done, but I am eager to get started and see what the future holds for Ash Grove basketball.”
