A gas leak near Republic Middle School resulted in staff members being evacuated on June 3.

A leak was reported across Hines Street from the Republic Middle School building; no one was injured, according to Nikki Faith, director of communications for the district, though 10 to 12 people were evacuated from the north side of the building out of “an abundance of caution.”

Faith said that summer school was taking place on the other end of the building, and emergency personnel assured the district that there was no need for concern regarding the remainder of the staff and attending children.

According to Faith, the only disruption to usual operations was the student pickup line, as the parking lot was not accessible due to the closure of Hines Street.

District families were informed of the gas leak at about 10:15 a.m. and the road was re-opened before the end of the school day.

The cause of the gas leak is currently unknown.
