10th ranked Ash Grove Pirates defeat El Dorado Springs

The Class 1, 10th ranked Ash Grove High School football team was in action on Friday, Sept. 6, at El Dorado Springs and came home with a 14-6 win.
After El Dorado Springs took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter, the Pirates answered right back on a 17-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6-6. Ash Grove would then convert the two-point conversion and take an 8-6 lead. Later in the quarter Hari Thompson would hit Kyler Reece on a 15-yard scoring play to increase the Pirates lead to 14-6 at the half. The defense would hold the rest of the night preserving the eight-point victory.
Thompson finished the game 3-for-6 for 101 yards and a touchdown and added another 50 yards on the ground on 18 carries. Reece had 53 yards rushing on 13 carries and 15 yards receiving on one catch. Chase Acosta had one catch for 66 yards and Alexander Acosta had 20 yards receiving on one catch.
The Pirates are now 2-0 on the season and will host their first game of the season this Friday against Stockton with Sheldon.
With the win, Ash Grove moved up to second place in the Class 1, District 3 standings with 50 points. Marionville leads the district with 64.5 points, followed by: Ash Grove, Windsor and Adrian (48 points), Pierce City (47.5 points), Skyline (42 points), Midway and Lincoln (40 points), Cabool (27 points) and Miller (23 points).
Lady Pirates volleyball pick up first win of the young season over Greenfield Lady Wildcats
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates traveled to Greenfield on Thursday, Sept. 5, and came home with a four-set victory, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-12.
Ash Grove is now 1-2-2 on the season and were scheduled to host Pleasant Hope last night and travel to Fordland tomorrow night.
