Accused murderer Cox extradited to Greene County custody
Suspect charged in shooting death of Willard couple murdered at home in November 2020
A Springfield woman accused of taking part in the murder of a Willard couple has been extradited back to Greene County from San Francisco, Calif. Theresa Elizabeth Cox, 27, was booked into the Greene County Jail on Monday, Jan. 4. She faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Cox is accused, along with Duncan “Mixxi” James Bogle, Matthew Dewayne Plumb and Therin Rhyle Plumb, all of Springfield, of being involved in the murders of Alexander Chute and Brianna Sproul, a Willard couple who were found dead in their home in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020.
Probable cause
According to the probable cause statement in the case, Chute and Sproul were found dead in their residence after a Willard Police officer responded to a “shots fired” call. A fully-loaded .40-caliber Glock 27 was found near Chute’s hand, and an empty holster was on his belt. Eight shell casings were collected at the scene. Another Willard officer who lived near the residence checked his surveillance system and found it had captured sounds at 1:21 a.m. that morning consistent with 10 gunshots. Chute had been scheduled to work until midnight the night before, but left at 11 p.m. after reportedly telling a co-worker
that Cox was at his residence and Sproul was there by herself.
A four-year-old girl, the biological daughter of Chute and Cox, was found in the residence unharmed and turned over to the Department of Social Service’s Children’s Division.
Cox and Bogle were both apprehended in San Francisco on Tuesday, Dec. 8; Bogle continues to be held in San Francisco and, according to the San Francisco County Sheriff’s website, will next appear in court there on Thursday, Jan. 21. Mathew Plumb remains in the Greene County Jail; he was booked into the jail on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Therin Plumb was booked into the jail on Thursday, Dec. 3; according to online court records, he was released on a $15,000 bond Tuesday, Dec. 15. According to the terms of his release, he is on house arrest and required to wear a GPS device.
Cox is scheduled to appear in court in Greene County for a bond hearing on Monday, Jan. 11, and will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Jan. 28.
