Griffin Frey has earned a second trip to the state golf tournament. Frey shot a seven-over-par 79 at the district tournament at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs. That was good enough to tie for fifth place, earn all-district recognition, and earn a berth at the state tournament in Cape Girardeau next week.
Harry Satterlee of Joplin won the district title with a 73. Meyer Lively of Nixa tied Frey at 79.
“That was a heck of a 79,” said coach Kris Flood. ”It was a difficult course, and it was windy today.”
Frey is the only Republic golfer to earn a state berth. Cason Bekemeier finished with an 85 and Jace Henry finished one stroke behind Bekemeier at 86. McCord Deken shot an 89 and Brayden Tharp a 96.
Republic finished sixth out of 16 teams.
The Class 5 state tournament will be held next week at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau. It will be Frey’s second state appearance. He qualified as a freshman, lost a season to COVID as a sophomore, then barely missed the qualifying cut as a junior.
