Ash Grove boys drop games to Pierce City, Miller at homecoming
The Ash Grove Pirates hosted a fiesty Mill- er squad for Ash Grove’s homecoming contest on Feb. 1, and lost to the Cardinals 64-47. Days prior to that, the same boys team trav- eled to Pierce City on Jan. 29 and came home with a 53-27 loss.
No individual statistics were made available for either one of these games at the time of this writing.
With the loss, Ash Grove falls to 3-17 on the season and was scheduled to travel to Pleasant Hope on Tuesday and will host Marionville on Friday night.
Girls
The Ash Grove High School girls basketball team saw their win streak snapped at seven games.
The Lady Pirates hosted Miller Jan. 31, hoping to extend their seven game winning streak, but in the end it was the Lady Cardi- nals going home with the 10-point, 47-37 win.
Ash Grove trailed Miller,
19-14 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Miller, 15-13 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 32-29 at the half. Neither team had a great offensive second half, as defense was the name of the game. Miller held the Lady Pirates to just two points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth quarter to pull out the 47- 37 win.
Ash Grove’s Riley Hammons led the Lady Pirates with 13 points and Kennedi Climer chipped in 11 points in the loss.
Prior to the Miller defeat, Ash Grove traveled to Pierce City on Jan. 28 and came home with a 59-47 win.
Climer led the Lady Pirates with 20 points; Emma Eagleburger added 15 points and Briley Bagley ended the game with 10 points.
The Lady Pirates are now 12-9 on the season and was scheduled to travel to Pleasant Hope on Mon- day and host Marionville tomorrow night.
