The Ash Grove High School football team put on a clinic at home on Friday, Oct. 7, as they defeated Clever 48-14 to win their sixth game of the year.
Brock Mooneyham hit Brady Nicholson with a nine-yard pass to open up the scoring for the Pirates in the first quarter and would follow that up with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Nate Trammell to put Ash Grove up 12-0 at the end of the quarter.
The fun would really begin in the second quarter, as the Pirates would score five times in the quarter. Trammel would get it started with a two-yard run, but then it would be the Mooneyham show, as Brock would run it in from six yards and 35 yards, before hitting Parker Crow with a two-yard score to put Ash Grove up 40-0.
Trammell, who started the scoring for the Pirates in the second quarter, would also end it, scampering in from two yards out to give Ash Grove a 48-7 lead at the half.
Mooneyham went 10-17 for 140 yards and three touchdowns throwing the ball and added another 124 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Trammell finished with 89 yards on 13 carries and two scores rushing and added a receiving touchdown in the game. Nicholson had four catches for 79 yards and a score in the win.
The Pirates stayed in third place in the Class 1, District 3 standings with 43.81 points. Marionville still leads with 55.95 points, followed by Sarcoxie (45.3 points), Ash Grove, Thayer (32.61 points), Pierce City (28.79 points), Cabool (26.1 points), Diamond (23.25 points) and Miller (23.17 points).
The Pirates will be put to the test this Friday as they host undefeated Marionville.
