Ash Grove footballers stop Lockwood with 10 seconds remaining to secure win

Both the Ash Grove High School volleyball team and football team were in action last week, with volleyball picking up two wins and the football team picking up a nail-biting win at Lockwood.

The Ash Grove football team traveled to Lockwood on Friday, Oct. 4 and came home with a 28-26 close fought victory. Jake Thompson finished with 130 total yards of offense and three total touchdowns; Tyler Tolmasoff had 100 total yards of offense and two touchdowns and Ethan Carter ran for 90 yards in the win.
Lockwood scored with 10 seconds left on the game clock, bringing them within two points of the visitors. But the Tiger squad couldn’t convert the two-point conversion against the Pirate defense.
“The offensive and defensive lines played tremendous up front for us all night,” said head coach Ryan Long.
With the win, the Pirates evened their record at 3-3 on the season and will host Greenfield this Friday.
Thayer still leads the
Class 1, District 2 standings with 58.67 points; Pierce City and Miller are tied for second place with 49.67 points, Cabool sits in fourth place with 41.17 points, Marionville is in fifth place with 31.47 points, Ash Grove is in sixth place with 29.83 points, Sarcoxie is in seventh place with 26.67 points and Diamond is in last place with 19.33 points.
