Ash Grove Pirates beat Miller in back-and-forth battle

Reece involved in all four Ash Grove touchdowns; look to Skyline contest Friday
The Ash Grove High School football team traveled to Class 1, District 3 foe, Miller on Friday, Sept. 27, and came home with a close 28-22 win.
Kyler Recee helped race Ash Grove out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, with two one-yard touchdown runs, but then the Pirates would be shut out for the rest of the half, allowing 22 unanswered points. Miller scored three times to take a 22-14 lead into the half.
Ash Grove answered back in the third quarter when Reece hit Jaxen Hance for a 30-yard score, allowing the Pirates to take a 22-22 lead. Reece would let it fly again in the fourth quarter, this time a 34-yard scoring pass to Hari Thompson that sealed the win for the Pirates.
Reece led Ash Grove in passing, going 17-33 for 187 yards and two touchdowns and in rushing, gaining 115 yards on 30 carries with two scores. Thompson finished the game with 122 yards and a touchdown on nine catches, while Hance had 50 yards on three catches with a touchdown.    
The Pirates are 4-1 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Skyline this Friday night.
In the Class 1, District 3 standings, Marionville leads the way with 62.6 points, followed by Adrian (52.5 points), Pierce City (46.12 points), Windsor (41.8 points), Ash Grove (40.75 points), Midway (38.6 points), Skyline (33.25 points), Lincoln (30.9 points), Cabool (27.61 points), and Miller (24.46 points).

Volleyball
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates had one game last week at Diamond on Tuesday, Sept 24, and lost in four sets, 18-25, 25-23, 13-25 and 18-25.
Ash Grove is now 4-4-2 on the season and were scheduled to host three games this week, Clever on Monday night, Marionville last night and Pierce City tomorrow night.
