Ash Grove, Bois D’Arc elementaries to receive multi-purpose safe rooms

The Ash Grove school district broke ground on extensions to both Ash Grove and Bois D’Arc schools on Thursday, Jan. 22. Superintendent of Ash Grove School District Shane Medlin delivered a speech on both occasions, which took place just a few miles and an hour apart. Members of the school board, representatives of Sapp Design Architects, Branco and the leader teams from each elementary held golden shovels and donned hard hats to commemorate the occasion.
At Ash Grove Elementary, officials broke ground on what will soon be a multi-purpose safe room, which will feature a gym and cafeteria, while the former cafeteria will be converted into classrooms.
At Bois D’Arc Elementary, students can soon expect a new saferoom complete with a cafeteria and commons area. A new administrative office, secure entrance and kitchen will also be built.
The buildings were designed by Sapp Design Architects and are to be built by Branco using the money from a $7.5 million bond approved by voters in April of 2025.
“Ash Grove is growing,” said Supt. Shane Medlin. “People know that this is a great place to come to school and have a family.”
