The Ash Grove High School football team added another win to their resume on Friday, Oct. 6, at Clever, as the Pirates defeated the Bluejays on homecoming night, 28-20.
Ash Grove ended the first quarter with a 7-6 lead and increased that to 20-14 at the half. The Pirates scored seven points in the third quarter and Clever added eight points in the fourth quarter, but Ash Grove got the win.
Pirate Cooper Burks was 5-12 for 106 yards and a touchdown, Kyler Reece led the Pirates with 144 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries, and Brady Nicholson had four catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
The Pirates are now 6-1 on the season and will travel to Class 1, No. 1 ranked Marionville this Friday night.
Marionville leads the Class 1, District 1 standings with 58 points, followed by; Portageville (52.33 points), Ash Grove (43.97 points), Thayer (42.71 points), Cabool (36.9 points), Miller (31.63 points), Charleston (30 points), Pierce City (25.76 points) and Hayti (19.22 points).

Volleyball
The Ash Grove High School volleyball team played three games last week, winning all three of them to run their record to 10-8-2.
The Lady Pirates traveled to Miller on Thursday, Oct. 5, and came home with a five-set victory, 24-26, 20-25, 25-14, 25-19 and 19-17.
Ash Grove hosted Sparta on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and won in four sets, 21-25, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-22.
The Lady Pirates opened the week at home on Monday, Oct. 2, beating Stockton in three sets, 25-9, 25-18 and 26-24.
Ash Grove was scheduled to host Sarcoxie last night and Pleasant Hope tomorrow night before heading to Sparta on Saturday to compete in the Sparta Lady Trojan Invitational.
