Republic junior basketballer continues high-powered offensive onslaught

Republic’s Kaemyn Bekemeier reached the 1,000-point mark for her career in just the second game of her junior season. Bekemeier needed 26 points to reach the milestone when the season began. She scored 10 against Incarnate Word, then poured in 28 against Springfield Central.
“I knew I was close, but I knew I wasn’t going to do it without my teammates,” she said. “It’s definitely a goal of mine, so I’m excited to get past that one.”
Coach Kris Flood said to reach the 1,000-point mark so soon is indicative of Bekemeier’s skill.
“Ever since she’s come in and been inserted into the starting lineup, she’s been a very consistent scorer. She can do it in different ways,” Flood said. “She can shoot from the perimeter. She can attack the basket (and) finish. She’s a very good free throw shooter.”
Bekemeier followed up her 28-point performance Friday with 24 against Jefferson City Saturday. Through four games this season, she’s averaging 18.3 points per game.
