Defense dominates as Ash Grove football defeats Diamond

Reece tallies only touchdown for Ash Grove in season opener away game against Wildcats

The Ash Grove High School football team traveled to Diamond on Friday, Aug. 30, to open up their 2024 season and came away with a defensive win, 8-6.
Diamond scored first in the second quarter on a one-yard run to lead 6-0 at the half. Ash Grove’s Kyler Reece got the Pirates even with a 15-yard run in the third quarter, to tie the game at 6-6. Ash Grove would get a safety in the fourth quarter to win the game 8-6.
Ash Grove is in fifth place in the Class 1, District 6 standings with 32 points after their win. Marionville, Windsor, Adrian and Lincoln all lead the district with 43 points, followed by Ash Grove, Pierce City with 22 points, Miller with nine points and Cabool, Skyline and Midway, all with seven points.
Ash Grove is 1-0 on the season and are scheduled to travel to El Dorado Springs on Friday night.

Volleyball
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates traveled to Stockton on Saturday, Aug. 31, to take part in the Stockton Invitational Tournament and came home with a 0-2-2 record.
Ash Grove split two sets with Conway, 25-19 and 23-25; lost in two sets to El Dorado Springs, 15-25 and 6-25; split two sets with Osceola, 25-16 and 20-25; and lost in three sets to Sparta, 11-25, 26-25 and 18-25.
Ash Grove is currently 0-2-2 on the season and will travel to Greenfield tomorrow night.
