Host Marionville Comets wallop Ash Grove Pirate football

The Class 1, eighth ranked Ash Grove High School football team traveled to Class 1, second ranked Marionville, on Friday, Oct. 17 and came home with a 34-7 loss.
After the Comets scored first, the Pirates answered back with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Reece to Hari Thompson to tie the game at 7-7. Marionville would then go on to score 27 unanswered points, 14 points in the second quarter and 13 points in the third quarter, to win the game.
Reece ended the game with 147 yards on 11-22 passing with a touchdown and Thompson had 98 yards on six catches with a touchdown.
Ash Grove is now 5-2 on the season and will host Sarcoxie Friday night. Thayer still leads the Class 1, District 3 standings with 56.96 points, followed by Marionville (51.74), Miller (42.68), Ash Grove (41.9), Pierce City (30.03) and Cabool (28.13).

Volleyball
The Lady Pirates volleyball team wrapped up their regular season last week by traveling to Sparta to take part in the Spart Lady Trojan Classic on Saturday, Oct. 18, winning the consolation bracket.
Ash Grove went 3-1-1 in the tournament, defeating Lesterville in two sets, 27-25 and 25-16, Lutie in two sets, 25-14 and 25-18 and Ava in three sets, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-18. The Lady Pirates lost to Fordland in two sets 15-25, 18-25 and tied Sparta in two sets, 26-27 and 25-22.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, Ash Grove hosted Skyline and lost in three sets, 9-25, 14-25 and 11-25. The Lady Pirates hosted Sarcoxie on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and lost in four sets, 25-18, 19-25, 11-25 and 11-25.
Ash Grove ended the regular season with a 12-13-3 record and will be the third seed in this week’s Class 2, District 10 tournament at Crane. The Lady Pirates were scheduled to play against Pleasant Hope last night. The semifinals were scheduled for tomorrow night with the championship game being played on Saturday.
New Covenant Academy is the top seed followed by Spokane, Ash Grove, Marionville, Crane and Pleasant Hope.
