Lady Pirate volleyball nabs two more victories, look to Sparta

The Ash Grove High School volleyball team played three games last week, winning two.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, the Lady Pirates traveled to Miller but lost in four sets, 22-25, 28-26, 11-25 and 16-25. Ash Grove hosted Stockton on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and won in five sets, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 24-26 and 15-13. The Lady Pirates began the week by traveling to Nixa on Monday, Oct. 6 to play against RUSH Senior Home School and won in three sets, 26-24, 25-15 and 25-23.
Ash Grove is now 10-10-1 on the season and were scheduled to play against Sarcoxie last night and Skyline tomorrow night before traveling to Sparta on Saturday to play in the Sparta Lady Trojan Invitational.
Football
The Class 1, ninth ranked Pirates football team did not have a game on Friday, Oct. 10 but played in an exhibition game against St. Vincent High School on Saturday, Oct. 11, losing 41-26, though it did not impact their record. The loss came as both Ash Grove and St. Vincent had opponents back out at the last minute leading to the short-notice bout. Ash Grove remains 5-1 on the season and will travel to Class 1, second ranked Marionville this Friday night.
Thayer leads the Class 1, District 3 standings with 56.89 points, followed by; Marionville (51.9), Ash Grove (46.44), Miller (52.25), Pierce City (32.64) and Cabool (29.12).
