Lady Pirates fall to El Dorado Springs and East Newton, Pirates baseball knocks off Billings and Marion C. Early

The Ash Grove High School softball team opened up their 2026 season with two games last week, losing to El Dorado Springs and East Newton.
On Friday, March 20, the Lady Pirates hosted El Dorado Springs, but fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 14-4.
El Dorado Springs led 2-1 after the first inning and 7-1 after the second inning. No one was able to score again until the Lady Bulldogs plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase their lead to 9-1. In the bottom of the inning the Lady Pirates scored three times to cut the lead to 9-4. El Dorado Springs added five more runs in the top of the seventh inning to win by 10.
Lacey McCullogh went 2-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Brooklyn Rowden was 1-4 with an RBI.
The Lady Pirates opened the season by traveling to East Newton on Thursday, March 19, but fell to the Patriots, 6-4.
East Newton led 1-0 after the first inning and 5-0 by the end of the third inning. Ash Grove answered back with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but East Newton added another run in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 6-3. The Lady Pirates scored their final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Brooke Nicholson was 2-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI, McCullough went 2-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, Addyson Murray and Oakley Dowling both finished the game 1-3 with an RBI.
McCullough was the losing pitcher, going six innings, allowing six runs, three earned on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout.
Ash Grove is 0-2 and were scheduled to travel to Mt. Vernon to compete in the Mt. Vernon Tournament, which started on Monday.
Baseball
The Pirates baseball team was also in action last week, as they defeated Billings at home on Friday night, 13-3.
Ash Grove hosted Marion C. Early on Thursday night and won the game 12-2. The Pirates scored four runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and three runs in the fifth inning to win the game by 10.
Ash Grove is 2-0 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Marionville this week to take part in the Comet Opening Week Tournament.
