Lady Pirates pick up two big wins over Greenfield, Diamond

Ash Grove’s Sapp leads the way with 17 points in both games; team looks to annual Walnut Grove Holiday Classic
The Ash Grove girls’ basketball team picked up two more wins last week, defeating Greenfield and Diamond.
On Friday, Dec. 13, the Lady Pirates traveled to Greenfield and came away with a 30-point victory, 57-27.
Ash Grove led 16-1 after the first quarter, but were outscored in the second quarter, 18-11 to take a 27-19 lead into the half. The Lady Pirates came back and shot lights out in the third quarter, outscoring Greenfield 21-2 to increase their lead to 48-21. In the final quarter, the Lady Pirates added nine more points to seal the win.
Millison Sapp paced Ash Grove with 17 points, Myah Johnson added 15 points and Lacey McCullough chipped in 11 points in the victory.
The Lady Pirates opened the week by hosting Diamond on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and ran away with a 54-42 victory.
Diamond led 11-7 after the first quarter, but Ash Grove played great defense in the second quarter, allowing just four points, while scoring 11 points to take an 18-15 lead into halftime. Both teams lit up the scoreboard in the third quarter with Diamond hitting for 18 points, as the Lady Pirates answered with 22 points of their own to increase their lead to 40-33. In the fourth quarter, Ash Grove scored 14 points to earn the 12-point win.
Sapp led Ash Grove with 17 points and Brooke Nicholson added 14 points.
The Lady Pirates are now 5-2 on the season and were scheduled to host Clever on Monday night before traveling to Walnut Grove on Saturday for the Walnut Grove Holiday Classic.
