Lady Pirates softball go 3-1 in Mt. Vernon Tournament, Pirates baseball wins Marionville Tournament

The Ash Grove High School softball team traveled to Mt. Vernon to take part in the Mt. Vernon Tournament from Monday, March 23 through Thursday, March 24.

 

On Tuesday, the Lady Pirates lost to Class 2, fifth ranked Mt. Vernon 11-1.

 

Ash Grove took an early 1-0 first inning lead, but the Lady Mt’neers answered with one run in the second inning, five runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning.

 

Abby Dowling was 1-3 with a double and an RBI and Oakley Dowling went 1-2 with a double.

 

The Lady Pirates defeated Class 1, fifth ranked Purdy, 7-6 on Tuesday.

 

Purdy scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Ash Grove scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Lady Eagles scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. A two-run fifth inning saw Purdy take a 6-5 lead in the game. Ash Grove answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the 7-6 win.

 

Lacey McCullough went 1-3 with a double, Addy Murray was 2-3 with two RBIs, Dowling went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs, Jaelyn Daniel was 1-2 with two RBIs and Brooklyn Rowden ended the game 1-2 with a double and an RBI.

 

On Monday, Ash Grove defeated Buffalo 6-5. The Lady Pirates scored one run in the fifth inning and walked it off with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

 

McCullough was 2-4 with two RBIs, Abby Stevens went 2-3 with an RBI, Brooke Nicholson went 2-3 with two RBIs and Lillie Carter finished the game 2-2 with an RBI.

 

Ash Grove began the tournament with an 8-5 win over Forsyth on Monday. The Lady Pirates scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the fourth inning to win the game.

 

McCullough went 2-3 with a double, Nicholson was 1-3 with an RBI, Murray went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs, Daniel was 1-3 with a double and two RBIs, Brylee Bartlett went 3-3 with an RBI and Rowden finished the game 1-3.

 

“We had a successful Mt. Vernon tournament going 3-1,” said Head Coach Austin Tipton. “We had some struggles in the field during the Mt. Vernon game but were able to correct our mistakes in the Purdy game which helped us get a win over a solid team.”

Ash Grove is 3-3 on the season and were scheduled to play against Mt. Vernon on Monday and Diamond last night before heading to Clever tomorrow night and Fair Grove on Friday night.

 

Baseball

 

The Ash Grove High School baseball team traveled to Marionville last week to take part in the Comet Opening Week Tournament from Monday through Thursday, March 26.

 

In the championship game on Thursday, Ash Grove defeated Marionville 12-11.

 

The Pirates scored two runs in the first, second, and third innings, five runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning.

 

On Tuesday, the Pirates defeated Fordland in the semifinals, 12-8.

 

Ash Grove scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third inning, a single run in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and single run in the seventh inning to secure the win.

 

Ash Grove opened the tournament by defeating Pleasant Hope 6-0 on Monday. The Pirates scored two runs in the third and fourth innings and single run in the fifth and sixth innings.

 

Ash Grove is 5-0 on the season and were scheduled to play at Walnut Grove on Monday and Mansfield on Tuesday before hosting New Heights Christian Academy tomorrow night.
