Lady Pirates win Lady Pirate Classic over weekend

Pirate baseball wins fifth straight, shuts out Miller visitors; looks to Sarcoxie
 
It was a busy schedule for the Ash Grove High School softball and baseball teams last week, as the Lady Pirates played seven games and the Pirates were involved in three.
Ash Grove softball hosted the Lady Pirate Classic on Saturday, April 9, and took home the championship.
The Lady Pirates started the day with a 25-hit, 16-3 win over Lockwood, followed by a 13-hit, 12-2 win over Miller, and an 11-0 shut out win over Southwest (Washburn) before knocking off Purdy 5-2 in the championship game.
On Friday, April 8, Ash Grove traveled to Clever and came home with a 15-1 win, scoring one run in the first inning, five runs in the second inning, two runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning.
Chelsye Graham had four hits; Chelsey Andrus and Maddi Mobley each had three hits and Meagan Hawkins had two hits and got the win.
In a close game, Ash Grove lost to Stockton at Stockton on Thursday, April 7, 7-6.
Maddi Grube had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored, Kaitlyn Stafford had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, Ashlyn Gerla scored a run and two hits, and an RBI and Graham ended the game with two hits and an RBI.
The Lady Pirates opened the week at home with a 6-5 win over Sarcoxie on Tuesday, April 5.
Hawkins got the win, allowing seven hits, while striking out four. Graham provided the offense with a home run and two RBI.
The Lady Pirates are now 8-7 and after starting the season, 1-6, have gone 7-1 in their last eight games. Ash Grove was scheduled to host Marionville yesterday and travel to Miller tomorrow.
Baseball
In baseball, the Pirates beat Miller 10-0 on Wednesday, April 6, in Ash Grove, beat Buffalo, 4-3, in Buffalo on Tuesday, April 5 and hosted and beat Billings, 4-1 on Monday, April 4.
The Pirates have now won five straight, to run their record to 5-1 and were scheduled to host Marion C. Early yesterday and were to travel to Sarcoxie tomorrow
night.
