McConnell mistrial denied, sentencing set for May 18

Former Brookline Fire Protection District Chief Larry McConnell has been denied a mistrial in his case stemming from a conviction in 2020.

McConnell was originally convicted of statutory sodomy and rape, receiving a sentence of 10 years in prison. He would later appeal the 2020 ruling citing ineffective council in 2024. The courts agreed, stating that key evidence was not brought forward by McConnell’s lawyers in the original trial. He was released from prison pending the retrial.

In January of this year, a jury again found McConnell guilty of one count of rape and one count of statutory sodomy.

He is set to be sentenced on May 18, until then however, McConnell remains out on bond.
