Myrna Marie Grothen was born Jan. 6, 1963, the daughter of Leo “Bill” and Donna (Flood) Grothen in Dexter, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 53.

Myrna was raised in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1981. She then attended Southwestern Community College, Northwest Missouri State University and Vatterott College, earning her bachelor’s degree. She lived in Greenfield most of her life until 1999, when she moved to Des Moines. She worked for Sernetts, Eatons and Wells Fargo in Des Moines. Myrna loved taking pictures, reading, crafts and especially being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Grothen; and her grandparents, Warren Flood and Hazel Flood and Gerhard and Ida Grothen.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Grothen of Murray; sister Nancy Grothen of Murray; brother Frank Grothen of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held May 28, 2016, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fontanelle, Iowa, with Pastor Steven Broers officiating.

Music was provided by organist Zola Westphal with congregational hymns “O What Merry Merry Voices,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Pallbearers were Mike Sheeder, Tom Leto, Russ Armstrong, Marcella Welsch, Sara Schwendinger and Chris Huhn.

Honorary pallbearers were Erin Mohror, Marlin Herr, Bryan Beaman, Chris Kollasch, Jen Martin, Jessica Kelso, Scott Roberts and Carl Faust.

Floral committee was Jane Sullivan and Peggy Darling.

Interment at the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.
