Ozarks Food Harvest partners with Destiny Church to distribute food
Republic church will distribute product on the third Tuesday of each month, began this week
Ozarks Food Harvest is partnering with Destiny Church in Republic to distribute food at no cost to qualifying families each month through The Emergency Food Assistance Program, also known as TEFAP.
Destiny Church is located at 526 E. Harrison Republic. Distribution will be on the third Tuesday each month from 4-6 p.m., which began Jan. 19. Individuals interested in food assistance must bring identification, proof of Greene County residency and income information to qualify.
“Having access to food assistance at a convenient location can be difficult for families
who struggle with transportation,” said Denise Gibson, development and communication director at Ozarks Food Harvest. “We’re so glad to partner with a site that will make food access easier for folks living in Republic and southwest Greene County.”
TEFAP is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program that helps supplement the diets of families facing hunger by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. Through TEFAP, the USDA purchases a variety of nutritious, high-quality foods and partners with The Food Bank for distribution.
“We’ve seen more new people visiting our food pantry than ever before due to COVID-19,” said Chad Blansit, lead pastor of Destiny Church. “We’re thankful for the additional food and support from Ozarks Food Harvest to ensure families in our community don’t have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.”
Ozarks Food Harvest is the largest COVID-19 related donor to charities in southwest Missouri. Since April 2020, Ozarks Food Harvest has hosted more than 90 Mobile Food Pantries, purchased an additional $3.6 million worth of food and provided a record-breaking 16 million meals for its network of 270 hunger-relief organizations.
