Pirate footballers fall to visiting Stockton on Senior Night

The Class 1, tenth ranked Ash Grove Pirate football team hosted their first home game of the 2024 season on Senior Night and fell to Stockton, 18-0.
Stockton scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. The Tigers added two more scores in the second quarter. The first came on a 61-yard punt return and the second was on a 10-yard run to give Stockton an 18-0 lead at the half. That would be all the scoring for the game as both teams’ defenses took over in the second half.
Pirate Harison Thompson finished the game 10-17 passing for 63 yards. Kyler Reece had 25 yards rushing on seven carries for Ash Grove and Alexander Acosta led the Pirates with 48 yards receiving on seven catches.
Ash Grove is 2-1 on the season and will host Pierce City this Friday night. With the loss, Ash Grove fell to sixth place in the Class 1, District 3 standings with 42.33 points. Marionville leads the district with 59 points, followed by Pierce City (54.33 points), Adrian (51.33 points), Windsor (46.33 points), Midway (42.67 points), Ash Grove, Lincoln (39.33 points), Skyline (32 points), Cabool (29.33 points) and Miller (18.33 points).

Volleyball
Lady Pirates volleyball splits two games last week, will take on homes schoolers, then Lockwood
In volleyball action, the Lady Pirates traveled to Fordland on Thursday, Sept. 12, and came home with a tough, four-set loss, 23-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 22-25.
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, Ash Grove hosted Pleasant Hope and won in three sets, 25-15, 25-22 and 29-27.
The Lady Pirates are now 2-3-2 on the season and were scheduled to play in Springfield against the 417 Mavericks Home School team last night, before traveling to Lockwood tomorrow night and then to Buffalo on Saturday to take part in the Buffalo Lady Bison Invitational.
