Pirates baseball add five more wins to their total, Lady Pirates pick up two more wins

The Ash Grove High School baseball team racked up five wins last week to continue their undefeated season.
The Pirates hosted a double-header on Saturday, April 10 against Sparta and Exeter.
Ash Grove jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead against the Trojans. After neither team scored in the second inning the Pirates added three runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase their lead to 5-0. Sparta scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 5-1. A six-run fourth inning by Ash Grove sealed the 11-run victory.
Jaden Shorter went 1-3, including a three-run home run, scoring two runs and knocking in four runs. Saxton Kinney got the win, going five innings, allowing one earned run on one hit with two walks and 10 strike outs.
In their other game on Saturday, Ash Grove defeated Exeter 16-1.
The Tigers jumped out 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but that would be it for Exeter. Ash Grove scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, two runs in the bottom of the third inning and then walked it off with a 12-run fourth inning.
Kyler Reece was 4-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, Landon Craig went 2-3 with a double and a run scored, Toby Barnes was 3-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs and Sawyer Burks finished the game 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Joseph Jollivette was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing one run on one hit with five strike outs.
The Pirates hosted New Covenant Academy on Thursday, April 9 and defeated the Warriors 12-3.
Ash grove led 2-0 after the first inning but New Covenant Academy tied it up with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Warriors took a 3-2 lead after the top of the third inning but that would end the scoring for New Covenant Academy. Ash Grove would go on to add a single run in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning, a single run in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning.
Shorter was 3-4 with a fifth inning home run, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs, Burks went 3-4 with a run scored and three RBIs and Kinney finished the contest 2-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
The Pirates traveled to Sarcoxie on Tuesday, April 7 and came home with a 10-0 win over the Bears.
Ash Grove scored one run in the first and fourth innings and four runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Kinney went 2-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, Ty Messley was 1-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Reece was 2-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Reece was also the wining pitcher, throwing a complete game, allowing no earned runs on four hits with 11 strike outs.
Ash Grove opened the week by hosting Greenfield on Monday, April 6 and defeated the Wildcats 10-0.
After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates exploded for eight runs in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth inning to secure the 10-run victory.
Shorter went 2-2 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Messley was 2-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Hunter Heffernon finished the game 1-1 with a run scored and three RBIs. Barnes started the game, going four innings, allowing no runs on one hit with one walk and seven strike outs and Shorter finished the game allowing no hits or runs with three strike outs.
Ash Grove is 13-0 on the season and were scheduled to play at Diamond on Monday night before hosting Conway last night and traveling to Monett on Friday night.
Softball
The Lady Pirates softball team traveled to Stockton on Thursday night and came home with a 7-5 win over the Lady Tigers.
Ash Grove scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Stockton answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. There was no scoring for the next three innings before the Lady Pirates scored in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 3-3. The Lady Tigers retook the lead 4-3, with a run in the bottom of the inning and then increased that lead to 5-3 with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, the Lady Pirates scored four runs to put the game away and secure the two-t\run victory.
Abby Stevens went 2-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI and Addyson Murray was 3-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Lady Pirates hosted Sarcoxie on Tuesday but lost to the Lady Bears 8-6.
Sarcoxie led 2-0 after the first inning and 2-1 after the third inning. Ash grove took a 3-2 lead after scoring two runs in the third inning. After the Lady Bears tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, Ash Grove retook the lead, 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. A three-run sixth inning and a two-run seventh inning gave Sarcoxie an 8-4 lead. The Lady Pirates scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lacey McCullough was 2-4 with a seventh inning home run, a run scored and two RBIs and Jaelyn Daniel went 2-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
The Lady Pirates opened the week by traveling to Southwest (Washburn) on Monday and came home with an easy 16-0 win.
Ash Grove scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning to secure the 16-0 win.
McCullough was 2-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs, she also allowed just one hit and struck out three in the game. Oakley Dowling finished the game 1-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Ash Grove is 7-6 on the season and were scheduled to play against Marion C. Early on Monday night and Marionville last night.
