Pirates defeat Midway in Class 1, Dist. 3 quarterfinal game

Ash Grove volleyballers Stafford, Allred named to all-conference, district volleyball teams
The Class 1, fifth-ranked Ash Grove High School football team continued their season on Friday, Nov. 8, defeating Midway 38-14 at Ash Grove.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Pirates broke out for two touchdowns in the second quarter, the first on three-yard touchdown run from Kyler Reece to give the Pirates an early 8-0 lead. The second came on a 16-yard pass from Reece to Alex Acosta to increase the Pirates lead to 16-0 at the half.
Ash Grove added to their lead in the third quarter when Reece ran it in from 17 yards out to make it 24-0. Reece threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Hari Thompson in the fourth quarter to give the Pirates a 30-0 lead. After Midway scored to make it 30-8, Reece connected with Thompson again, this time from 28 yards, to give the Pirates a 38-8 advantage. Midway would tack on another score at the end of the game.
Reece led Ash grove in passing, going 10-14 for 141 yards and three touchdowns; he also led in rushing, gaining 113 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns. Acosta had five catches for 87 yards and a score, and Thompson ended the game with three catches for 52 yards and two touchdowns.
Ash Grove is now 8-2 on the season and will head to Class 1, third-ranked Adrian this Friday night for a semifinal match up.

Volleyball postseason awards
The Southwest Conference released their all-conference volleyball teams, and the Lady Pirates placed two players on the squad. Kaitlyn Stafford was named to the second team and Rylee Allred was placed on the honorable mention team. Ashlynn Helton, of Miller was named the Player of the Year, while Miller’s head coach, Tamra Landers was named Coach of the Year.  
The Class 2, District 10 all-district volleyball team was also released with Allred being named to the second team and Stafford being placed on the honorable mention team. Below is the complete list of honorees:
