Republic Athletes Qualify for State in Ten Events

Republic will send 11 athletes to the state track meet in Jefferson City in ten events. Five of the 11 qualified in two events at the sectional meet in Waynesville Monday. The meet had been postponed from Saturday because of storms.

Chase Buford was the first participant from Republic to punch his ticket to the state meet, finishing third in the long jump Monday morning. He followed that up with a second-place finish in the 100m dash.

Devon McMillin qualified in two events as well, and he won the only event championship of the day for Republic when he finished first in the high jump with a leap of 6’ 2.75”. McMillin also qualified for state in the 800m run, closing about a ten-meter gap in the final stretch to take fourth place at the finish line.

Miller Rountree qualified for state in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. In the 300m race, he broke his own school mark by more than a half-second, with a time of 40.07.

Landen Finley was the fourth Republic boy to advance to state, finishing fourth in the 400m dash.

Two Republic girls qualified in two events. Alaina Norman advanced in the javelin throw with a third-place finish, and she was part of the 4x400m relay team that qualified by finishing second. Kristin Probst was also a member of the 4x400m relay team, and she participated in the 4x800m relay, as well, earning two spots at the state meet.

The other members of the 4x400 team are Aaliyah Vasquez and Gracie Woods. The 4x800m relay team included Probst, Miha Nambara, Gracie Troester, and Misora Nambara.

The Class 5 state track meet will be held in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday.
