Republic soccer ends season in district loss

The Republic soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to Ozark in the district quarterfinals, bringing the season to a close. Ozark scored one goal in the first half and two more after the break to put Republic away.

Coach Jesus Zuniga, finishing his first year at the helm, said he was proud of his players for continuing to fight through the final minutes. A senior-heavy lineup was on the field as the season ended.

“It wasn’t for lack of effort or heart,” he said of the loss. “This will be a group that stays with me. The leadership was amazing from top to bottom.”

Republic finished its season 5-19.
