Republic swim wins meet championship at Foster Natatorium

The Republic girls swimming team claimed the first meet championship in program history Tuesday, setting two school records while topping a nine-team field at Foster Natatorium in Springfield.
The Lady Tigers scored 242 points to finish ahead of runner-up Lebanon (187) and third-place Bolivar (163). It marked the first time a Republic swimming team—boys or girls—has won a meet.
Two records fell during the performance. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Annalice Renegar, Elise Replogle, Zaylie Pinnell, and Ava Brown set a new program standard with a time of 1:49.34. Brown also established a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 26.35 seconds.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Republic won by 26 seconds over the nearest competitor.
Brown led the team with 28 points. Along with her record in the 50 freestyle, she swam the 100-yard freestyle in 57.23 seconds. Replogle added 26 points, finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.83 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.84.
Renegar scored 24 points, recording times of 1:17.61 in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:29.67 in the 200-yard freestyle. Sara Chism added 23 points with a 2:32.43 finish in the 200-yard individual medley and a 1:27.15 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Pinnell (22 points), Mei Pruett (21), and Amelia Beaver (16) also contributed to the team total. Pinnell swam the 100 freestyle in 1:01.42. Pruett recorded a 2:22.10 in the 200 freestyle and 1:07.12 in the 100 freestyle. Beaver posted a 2:09.11 in the 200 freestyle and 1:11.03 in the 100 backstroke.
