Republic Tigers Rexroat, McMillin combine to fuel runaway road win

Joe McMillin and Drew McMillin scored 20 points apiece in a runaway win at Sedalia Smith-Cotton, 63-43. The Tigers started hot and looked like they were headed to a blowout victory before Smith-Cotton’s Matt Thompson shot his team back into the game. Thompson helped Smith-Cotton work a 12-point deficit down to two before Republic pulled away again.
Republic led 31-24 at halftime, but Thompson and Smith-Cotton closed the gap to 31-29 by scoring the first five points of the second half. Republic turned it on from there, though. Will Berry scored on a put-back, and Askew made a three-pointer the next time down the floor to quickly extend the lead back to seven points. Race Looney’s conventional three-point play made it a 10-point lead again, and Republic stayed in control the rest of the way.
“There were some spurts tonight where we were really happy with what was going on out there, and then we had some spurts where [Smith-Cotton] kind of got it going and we felt like we had some self inflicted errors,” said coach Tim Brown. “It was a really great start. [I’m] proud of the start that we had on the road.”
Republic is 11-4, and the Tigers have won six straight and eight out of nine.
Republic scoring: Joe Rexroat 20, Drew McMillin 20, Race Looney 9, Ahlante Askew 7, Will Berry 4, Nate Woolford 3
