Republic baseball improved to 7–2 with four wins during a five-game stretch, finishing the week with wins over Rogersville, Monett, Winnetonka, and Warrensburg.
Republic 7, Rogersville 1
Cannon Ellison struck out a career-high nine batters over six innings as Republic defeated Rogersville 7–1 Tuesday at home. The Tigers jumped out to a four-run first inning and never looked back.
“I don’t really go in just trying to strike everyone out. I kind of just try to throw strikes and let my field play,” Ellison said. “If I’m going to strike them out, then I’m going to strike them out.”
Jackson Overstreet reached on an error in the first inning to score Ryder Davis for Republic’s first run. Preston McCracken followed with a two-run double, driving in Isaac White and Overstreet. Cooper Pilkinton’s RBI single made it 4–0.
Republic added insurance runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. McCracken led the Tigers with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored, while Davis and Ellison each scored twice.
Republic 14, Monett 13
The Tigers survived a wild finish, building an 11–2 lead through five innings before holding off Monett’s late surge in a 14–13 win Thursday.
Republic’s offense exploded for five first-inning runs on five hits. Davis singled to lead off before Ellison tripled him home. Overstreet singled and White followed with a triple, pushing the lead to 3–0.
Leading 14–7 entering the seventh, Republic weathered Monett’s six-run rally that put the tying run at third base. Cooper Pilkinton secured the final out with a groundout to shortstop Davis.
Davis earned the win with six innings on the mound, striking out six. At the plate, he went 3-for–3 with two walks and three runs scored. White went 2-for–3 with a triple, double, three RBIs and two runs.
Glendale 3, Republic 2
Missed opportunities proved costly in Republic’s lone loss of the week, a 3–2 defeat at state-ranked Glendale on Friday. The Tigers out-hit the Falcons 7–2 but couldn’t capitalize.
Republic tied the game 2–2 in the fifth inning on RBI hits from Overstreet and McCracken, but left the bases loaded. Glendale responded immediately with the go-ahead run when Graham Satterwhite drew a bases-loaded walk off Pilkinton.
“We felt like Coop’s been awesome, and we made a move, and he gave us a chance,” Republic coach Curt Plotner said. “He’s done a good job. He’s mixed it up real well, and he’s been around the zone, and he’s got a little bit of confidence when he’s out there in those key spots.”
Overstreet and McCracken each collected two hits and an RBI for Republic.
Republic 10, Winnetonka 5
Cooper Pilkinton went 4-for–5 with four RBIs, including a crucial two-run homer, as Republic rallied for a 10–5 win over Winnetonka Saturday at Carthage. Davis added a solo home run and a run-scoring triple in the Tigers’ 15-hit attack.
After Winnetonka took a 4–3 lead in the fourth inning, Republic surged ahead with four runs in the sixth, starting with Davis tying the game on his solo shot. Pilkinton followed with a two-run homer to left field.
Cooper Thomas earned his first career varsity win with three innings of relief.
Republic 3, Warrensburg 0
Brennan Overstreet pitched a complete-game shutout in his first varsity start as Republic blanked Warrensburg 3–0 Saturday at Carthage. Overstreet scattered eight hits over seven innings, striking out six without issuing a walk.
The Tigers scored all three runs in the third inning. Jackson Overstreet and Isaac White were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded, and McCracken added a sacrifice fly.
McCracken went 2-for–2 with an RBI to lead Republic’s offense. Despite managing just four hits, the Tigers capitalized on four walks, two hit batters, and an error.
