Republic wrestlers claim victories in dual meet

Republic’s wrestling teams combined for a successful week, sweeping Branson in a home dual meet Thursday before placing five wrestlers in the top four at the Lee’s Summit Holiday Tournament.
The girls won their dual meet 48–24, using seven pins to control the match. Dorothy Waterman (105), Bre-Elle Gutierrez (110), Rachel Clark (115), Millie Waterman (120), Abby Horn (130), Gabby Shanks (140), and Aara Shade (145) each won by fall. The Lady Tigers improved to 2–1 in duals.
The boys topped Branson 50–26. Keaton Overcast (138) and Kam Sutton (165) earned first-period pins. Daniel Gonzalez dominated at 144 pounds with an 18–3 technical fall victory. Jaxston Feuerborn capped the night with a 2–1 tiebreaker win in the heavyweight division.
At Lee’s Summit, three Tigers reached championship matches in the 20-team tournament. Corbin Massey (120), Overcast (138), and Gonzalez (144) each finished second. Chase Hicks added a third-place finish at 215 pounds, and Sutton took fourth at 165. Republic placed seventh as a team.
