Republic wrestlers win team title at home meet, girls take sixth

Republic wrestlers captured their home tournament Saturday, with the boys team winning the title and crowning three individual champions. The Lady Tigers finished sixth in their home tournament, led by Millie Waterman’s championship performance at 120 pounds.
The boys team racked up 269 points to outdistance second-place Lathrop by 31 points. Keaton Overcast hit a career milestone at 138 pounds, earning his 100th victory with a 10–3 decision over Rogers, Arkansas’ Landon Holmes in the championship match.
“Feels good. It shows all my dedication and everything, that it paid off,” Overcast said. “There’s very few wrestlers that’ll start their freshman year and get enough chances to accomplish what I’ve done before their senior year.”
Corbin Massey controlled the 120-pound bracket, including a win by technical fall in the championship against Joplin’s Lucas Allen. Chase Hicks rolled through the 215-pound bracket, capturing the title with an 8–3 win over Logan-Rogersville’s Jacob Shinkarevich.
Four Tigers earned second-place medals: Coy Chrihfield (106), Daniel Gonzalez (144), Kameron Sutton (165), and Tanner Gonzalez (190). Mason Hartsock earned third place at heavyweight.
In the girls tournament, Waterman powered through her bracket with five pins, including a fall in 2:27 over Camdenton’s Kenleigh Virtue in the finals to improve her record to 20–4.
Gabby Shanks added a third-place finish at 135 pounds. The Lady Tigers finished sixth out of 17 teams with 99.5 points. Smith-Cotton won the girls team title with 196 points.
