Republic wrestling caps strong week with tournament success

Republic wrestling finished a successful week with seven medals at tournaments in Columbia, after sweeping three duals each in boys and girls competition during senior night earlier in the week.
The Tigers honored seven seniors on Wednesday - wrestlers Shea Rogers, Abby Horn, Chase Hicks, Tanner Gonzalez, Cam Allen, and Adam Dunlap, along with team manager Makia McRoberts. Both teams then rolled through their competition, with the girls defeating Parkview, Hollister and Hillcrest by scores of 48–12, 54–0, and 54–24. The boys were equally impressive, winning 66–12, 71–11, and 65–15.
At Saturday’s tournaments in Columbia, Chase Hicks recorded his 100th career pin while finishing second at 215 pounds in the Hickman Wrestling Invitational. The Republic boys placed seventh overall. Keaton Overcast also earned second place at 138 pounds.
The Lady Tigers placed eighth out of 19 teams at the Kewpie Invitational. Gabby Shanks led Republic with a second-place finish at 135 pounds. Millie Waterman (120) and Rachel Clark (115) each earned fifth place, while Bre-Elle Gutierrez (110) and Abby Horn (130) finished sixth. Dorothy Waterman (100) placed fourth.
“This class is special to me. It’s my first class, my first year here was this group,” coach Eric Nolan said on Senior Night. “I’m very appreciative of how much this group has helped our program grow and succeed and improve over the years.”
