Runs hard to come by for Republic baseball squad last week

Republic’s offense broke out for seven runs against Branson in its first win, but struggled in two other losses. The Tigers have nine runs in their first four games.
Republic 7 Branson 0 Jared Hughes shut out
Branson on only three hits and Republic pounded out 12 hits in the Tigers’ first win of the season. Tyler Cavener went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Ryker Harrington went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Republic. Jaden Duvall reached base four times from the leadoff spot for Republic.
Rogersville 2 Republic 1 Republic had several
chances to pull ahead of Rogersville in the late innings, but fell 3-2 at home. The Wildcats and Tigers each scored a run in the third inning, and Republic went on top 2-1 after four
innings. But Rogersville scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead, then held off three Republic threats in the final three innings. In each of those three innings, the Tigers put the tying run in scoring position, but they failed each time to get the hit they needed to tie the game. Jordan Carter, pitching in relief in his first varsity game, suffered the loss for Republic.
Strafford 7 Republic 1 Republic managed just
five hits on the road at Strafford in a 7-1 loss. The Tigers’ defense committed five errors, sticking starting pitcher Clayton Crowley with the tough-luck loss. Crowley allowed all seven runs for Republic, but just one of those runs was earned. Crowley struck out two and walked three, allowing five hits. Easton Prevo and Tyler Cavener each had two base hits for Republic. The Tigers fell to 1-3.
