Second seeded Lady Pirates drop top seeded Crane to win Lady Comet Classic
The Ash Grove High School girls basketball team traveled to Marionville last week and came home with the championship at the Lady Comet Classic, in a winning week for the Lady Pirate squad.
The Lady Pirates knocked off Crane in the champion- ship game of the annual tournament in Marionville on Friday, Jan. 19, 47-38.
Freshman Khloe Moad led Ash Grove with 13 points; Briley Bagley had 11 points and Emma Eagleburger ended the game with 10 points.
In the semifinals on Jan. 18, Ash Grove defeated Spokane, 51-36. Kennedi Climer led Ash Grove with 16 points and Eagleburger had 13 points.
In the opening round, the Lady Pirates knocked off host Marionville Jan. 15, 53-28.
Moad led Ash Grove with 14 points; Bagley added 13 points and Eagleburger ended the game with 10 points.
Ash Grove was scheduled to host Sarcoxie on Monday night, Jan. 21, and will travel to Diamond on Thursday
with 18 points to win the game, 94-62.
“Greenwood is a qual- ity club with some special talents. We will use this experience to build on and continue to grow,” said Ash Grove head coach Josh Reece.
Draven Zeigler paced Ash Grove with 19 points; Cody Raney added 12 points and Devin Blake ended the game with 11 points.
The Pirates were sched- uled to host Sarcoxie on Tuesday night and will travel to Diamond on Friday night.

Boys
For the Ash Grove boys, the Pirates hosted Green- wood Jan. 17 but lost 94-62.
Greenwood ran out to an early 24-11 first quar- ter lead, before the Pirates rebounded for 21 points in the second quarter, but still trailed at the half, 49-32. Greenwood scored another 27 points in the third quar- ter to increase their lead to 76-44. Ash Grove scored 12 points in the fourth quarter but Greenwood answered with 18 points to win the game, 94-62.
