The Ash Grove High School girls basketball team picked up two more wins last week, as they defeated both Pleasant Hope and Marionville.
The Lady Pirates traveled to Pleasant Hope on Saturday, Feb. 13, and came home with an easy 82-31 win. Khloe Moad led Ash Grove with 20 points and Emma Eagleburger and Emma McClelland each ended the game with 15 points.
“Our efforts on the press and rebounds set the tempo of the game” said head coach Bryan Dean. “The girls really executed the concepts on the offense side, but our defense has to be stable down the stretch. It was a great two days of basketball for the Lady Pirates program.”
The Lady Pirates opened the week by hosting and defeating Marionville, 58-20 on Thursday, Feb. 11.
Ash Grove jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter lead and never looked back, increasing that lead to 32-5 by the half and 48-13 by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Comets 10-7 in the final quarter of play.
Eagleburger led Ash Grove with 21 points; while McClelland had 11 points and Briley Bagley ended the game with 10 points.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of where the Lady Pirates program is at this point,” said Dean. “The culture of a family is evident in how the team rallies for each other and help achieve goals for their teammates. We have had some great moments in the past weeks. Now, we need to keep our eyes on the prize.”
In the game, Eagleburger scored her 1,000th career point and is closing in on 1,000 career rebounds.
“Emma is one of the most underrated seniors in the area, but every coach in the area knows what she brings to the court every game,” said Dean. “The team and I are so happy for her and we are blessed she is representing Ash Grove. She has been the steady beat to our program since she has come into it as a freshman.”
