Republic’s six senior soccer players capped their home career in style Tuesday, all contributing to an 8–0 mercy-rule win over Parkview in Central Ozark Conference action.
The team honored Adison Gibbs, Claire Redman, Kaylee Cornelsen, Sophie Woolfenden, Cadence Lugar, and Giulia Spiridon before the match. Five seniors scored in the varsity contest, with Redman’s goal at 37:28 of the second half ending the game early.
“I look at where we started my first year with them. We were 8‑13, and now we’ve had two seasons above .500,” said coach Jesus Zuniga. “They all bought in and built on what we did last year.”
Freshmen Andie Wistrom and Ava Woolley opened the scoring before the seniors took control. Gibbs, Woolfenden, Cornelsen (twice), and Lugar all found the net in the first half, giving Republic a commanding 7–0 lead at intermission.
The team focused on setting up Redman in the second half after she had taken 11 shots without success.
“I took about 12 shots and missed 11, but the team came together and wanted me to score,” Redman said. “It was great seeing all the seniors get a goal tonight.”
Woolfenden reflected on the seniors’ relationship: “The last four years have been so enjoyable because these are all my favorite people. We’re all friends and love each other.”
